Our Remarkable Moments
Mrs. D's Remarkable ImprovementMrs.D. was in her early 70’s when she arrived at our home.....
Mrs.D. was in her early 70’s when she arrived at our home on a stretcher. She was in a very bad state and given less than 6 weeks to live. That was 11 years ago. As a result of the dedicated care and attention she received from her care team, Mrs. D improved day by day. With a healthy diet, more activities and social engagement she became socially outgoing and involved. She even started a Monday morning coffee club for residents to sit, have a coffee and gab.
Mrs. R's RecoveryMrs. R. was in his mid 80’s and had been living alone too long when she came to us.
Mrs. R. was in his mid 80’s and had been living alone too long when she came to us. Her condition was very poor and the consensus was that she was nearing the end of her life. As she lay in her bed apparently unaware of her surroundings, our staff kept talking to her as they tended to her and provided the care she needed. To everyone’s surprise, she came out of it and improved steadily to the point where she got up out of bed, started to interact socially with other residents and even joined the residents’ choir. She told us that while we thought she was unaware, she actually could hear everything that was being said and done around her. She said it was the little words of encouragement from staff and small gestures that made all the difference. Mrs. R even agreed to make a training video for staff from the perspective of a dying person and impress upon them the value of doing all those little caring and compassionate things. It made all the difference for her.
